Where do we board the Hiatus yacht in Holland, MI?

All standard charters depart from:

F Dock, Slip 8 — Holland Yacht Basin 1866 Ottawa Beach Road Holland, MI 49424

About 5.5 miles from downtown Holland and on the way to Ottawa Beach State Park.

Can you pick up our group at another location around Holland or Lake Macatawa?

Yes. Alternate pickup and drop‑off locations around Holland, Lake Michigan, and Lake Macatawa can be arranged with advance notice. Additional fees may apply.

Safety & Comfort

How do you ensure passenger safety on your yacht charters?

Hiatus is a USCG‑certified vessel equipped with Coast Guard–approved life jackets, first aid kits, and modern navigation systems. Your captain and crew prioritize your comfort and safety throughout the cruise. Swimming is at your own risk.

Are life jackets required?

Children under 13 must wear a Coast Guard–approved life jacket while the vessel is moving. We provide a variety of sizes, but please bring one for children under 30 lbs.

Will I get seasick on Lake Michigan?

Hiatus is a wide, stable yacht, but motion sickness is still possible. If you’re prone to seasickness, consider taking medication 30–60 minutes before departure.

What’s Included & Amenities

What is included in your private yacht cruise packages?

Every charter includes:

  • USCG‑certified captain
  • USCG‑certified vessel
  • All required safety equipment
  • Plates, flatware, glasses, napkins
  • Bottle openers, corkscrew, and bottled water

Guests may bring their own food and beverages. Catering is available separately. Alcohol, mooring fees, and decorations are not included.

Policies & Additional Questions

What should I bring on my Lake Michigan yacht charter?
  • Food and beverages (no red wine)
  • Weather‑appropriate clothing, hat, sunscreen
  • Non‑skid shoes (no black soles)
  • Camera
  • Swimsuit and towel

Avoid glass bottles except for wine.

Can we bring dogs?

Pets generally don’t enjoy boating, so we ask that you leave them at home.

Is smoking allowed?

No. Smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited.

What is your cancellation policy?
  • Less than 24 hours before departure: 50% charge
  • 7+ days before departure: deposit refunded in full
What happens if weather is bad on the day of our cruise?

If conditions are unsafe — rain, lightning, hail, or rough waters — we will reschedule your yacht charter or provide a full refund.

Because Lake Michigan weather can change quickly, decisions may be made close to departure.

The captain has final authority on cancellations or early returns.

Will my cellphone work on Lake Michigan?

Most major carriers have service within ~3 miles of shore.
Signal may weaken near sand dunes.

Can I drive the yacht?

Yes — if you’d like to take the wheel, just ask.
The captain will supervise for safety.

Who is the captain?

Captain Cliff is a USCG‑certified captain with over 35 years of experience operating a variety of powerboats.

Should we tip the crew?

Gratuity is not included.
A 15–20% tip is customary for the captain and first mate.
